There are 13 public and 10 private golf courses spread throughout Thousand Oaks, and the sunny southern Californian climate gives locals plenty of time to enjoy them. Ranging from the prosaic to the sublime, courses are excitingly varied county wide and interesting to get to know over time. Many are architect designed, some are highly exclusive, and others are happy to be no more than great local haunts.
While every town has its own public course and most have private clubs as well, Simi Valley necessitates a particular mention, so ample are the facilities. Residents have the use of the Lost Canyons, Simi Hills, and Sinaloa public courses and they may also apply to the superb Wood Ranch Country Club, which is home to many regional tournaments.
Golfing resorts are numerous in the northern part of Thousand Oaks, particularly around Ojai and Santa Barbara (the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa and the Blacklake Resort are standout facilities) and there are several attractive golfing communities throughout the county. Established in the nineteen-eighties, Oxnard’s River Ridge has elegant single family homes and room for further development. Las Posas Country Club (in Camarillo) and the Saticoy Country Club are both exclusive areas with large properties, while Spanish Hills (in Camarillo) is a newer development with more moderately sized homes.
